Moving isn’t easy ! Your whole family is often concerned, and each of you live the moment in a different manner.
The PROMOTRANSIT teams, because of their professionalism and long experience, have decided to draw-up a list of various elements, which are often anecdotes, to help you deal with moving in the best way. So here is a basic check-list, with dates, to prepare and effect your removal.
Two months before your removal
Define with your PROMOTRANSIT Agent the exact date for the house removal. He will advise you to avoid the busy periods and can agree on dates that will help you to save money (a truck that’s already in your area, space in a container, etc…).
One month before your removal
Contact your insurance agent to transfer your fire & theft policies to your new home, giving the date of effect. If you can’t do this for geographical reasons (you’re in the DOM-TOM or abroad), contact us for advice.
Two weeks before your removal
Begin crating your effects, and choose adequate boxes. Don’t fill them up too much because they may be difficult to transport, so remember to mix heavy and light objects. Number your boxes and make a separate list of their contents.

Don’t forget to cancel the water, gas and electricity contracts in your old home, and to arrange new contracts for your new one. Fill in the form for forwarding your mail at the Post Office.
Give a change of address to your bank, your mutual benefit insurance company, your insurance company, to the company who deals with your subscriptions to magazines and newspapers, your employer, your friends, your family, your children’s school, ….
A few days before moving
Unplug the ‘fridge and freezer and all the other machines (that function with water and can be closed). Clean them to avoid bad smells and mould upon arrival.
The day of your removal
Keep with you during your whole trip your money, chequebook, banking cards and keys.
After moving
Notify all your correspondents of your new address each time you receive mail from them.
